Bass Harbor Campground is a seasonal campground open from May through October with tenting, RV sites, and cabins.  The campground is located near Acadia National Park on Mount Desert.  The campground is forested and most spots have shade.

Bar Harbor is also a great place to spend the day.  There are shops, restaurants, fuel, and markets available.

The Island Explorer Bus stops at the campground 24 times each day during the summer months.  Riding the bus is the best way to see Mount Desert.  There are eight bus routes with numerous clean propane buses taking riders to most destinations in Acadia National Park.  The buses stop at campgrounds, motels, and villages.  Buy a park pass and the bus is free.  Each bus can also carry three bikes.  It's a great way to get around.  Pick up a shuttle map at the information center where you can also leave your car.  Busses operate from June 23 through August 31 with a limited schedule extending until October 14, 2014.  Times may change annually.

The Bass Harbor Head Light is just across the highway from the campground.  There are some great views of Maine's rocky coast from the lighthouse.

Depending on the time of year, many areas in Maine may have ticksbees, and mosquitos.  Due to the potential problems posed by these insects it's best to arrive prepared should these insects become a nuisance.  Campbase recommends screen enclosuresrepellantsbug zappers, and mesh net hats.  Please click these links to see our recommended items.
