Comment

Mount Desert Campground is open from May through October with tent sites and small RV camp sites.  RV's must be smaller than 20 feet.  The campground roads are not designed for the larger RV's.  This is primarily a tenters campground.  That being said, it's also one of the most bueatiful campgrounds Campbase has visited.  The campground is in a pine forest with bay side camp spots.  Most tent spots in the campground have a tent platform.

Riding the Island Explorer bus is the best way to get around the island and national park.  There are eight bus routes with numerous clean propane buses taking riders to most destinations in the park.  The buses stop at campgrounds, motels, and villages.  Buy a park pass and the bus is free.  Each bus can also carry three bikes.  It's a great way to get around.  Pick up a shuttle map at the information center where you can also leave your car.  Busses operate from June 23 through August 31 with a limited schedule extending until October 14, 2014.  Times may change annually.

Southwestern Harbor is a popular place to visit from the campground.  There are restaurants, shops, and a market.  There is also a bicycle shop.

The campground does not have a dump station.  Electric and water hookups are available.

Depending on the time of year, many areas in Maine may have ticksbees, and mosquitos.  Due to the potential problems posed by these insects it's best to arrive prepared should these insects become a nuisance.  Campbase recommends screen enclosuresrepellantsbug zappers, and mesh net hats.  Please click these links to see our recommended items.
