Description

California, Palomar Mountain State Park, Two camp areas are available in the state park.

Directions:

The park is off Highway 76, up Highway S-6, then left on Highway S-7 at the junction near the mountaintop.  The S-7 goes into the park entrance.

Comment

Palomar Mountain State Park has one group camp and one campground.  Doane Valley Campground has 32 mostly tent camp spots.  Vehicles larger than 21 feet are not allowed.  This is primarily a tenters campground.  Cedar Grove Group Camp is also available for large groups up to 25 people.  There are three group camp spots.  Please click the links here to see detailed information and pictures for each campground.  

Palomar Mountain State Park is located in a bueatiful pine Forest on top of Mount Palomar.  The park is located a short distance from the Mount Palomar Observatory.  The observatory has an information center and is open to the public.  Extensive hiking trails can be found near the park.  There is a restaurant and store two short miles from the campground.  Star gazing is popular from the park due to the excellent viewing conditions.  The area is also popular for auto and motorcycle road touring due to the winding highways.  Trout and catfish can be caught in Doane Pond.
