Schoodic Woods Campground.  Before we continue with campground information, Campbase would just like to say, NICE JOB NATIONAL PARK SERVICE(and everyone else).  Truely, a well thought out campground.  Campbase especially likes the bike and walking trails incorporated into the campground design.  Extensive bike and hike trails are long overdue within the NPS.  There are also large parking spots for RV's and well sized spots for tenting.  It's really a campground that we can all be proud of.

Schoodic Woods Campground has 33 RV, 50 tent, 9 hike-to and 2 group sites.  Electric and water RV spots are also available.  The campground is usually open from late May until Columbus Day.  Reservations are highly recommended.  Each camp spot is large and private.  There are trees and woods between each camp spot.  Most camp spots have large shade trees.  Restrooms are available however, there are no showers.  Camp spots do not have ceptic however a dump station is available.  Fire wood was available at the campground during the Campbase visit.  Firewood is free at the campground when it's available.  The NPS does not want you to transport firewood from out of state due to invasive insects that could damage the local forest.

RV generator use is not permitted however, electric hookups are available.

RV pull through spots are available in Loop B only.  Maximum size should be around 40+- feet.  Maximum size varies by site (Find exact sizes on recreation.gov), but all can easily accommodate 40 feet in B-loop.

RVs are not permitted beyond Schoodic Woods on Schoodic Loop Road.

All camp roads are paved.  Parking pads are all crushed rock.

Winter Harbor is just two miles from the campground where there are small shops and restaurants.  There are also boat launch facilities.  The closest and largest marked is also located there.

The campground does not have an ocean view or water access.

Fuel is available at Mc's Marketplace in Birch Harbor, about 5 miles east on highway 186.

There is a marina and boat launch in Winter Harbor.  If you have a boat, launch and dock it there.

Campbase has a "peddle through" video where we take a short bike ride through the campground and video the sites.  Click here for our Peddle Through Video.

Local Recreation:

Take the car, hike, or bike through the Acadia National Park and see all the wonderful sights.  Photography is very popular in this area.  You almost can't take a bad picture.  The highway past the campground turns to a one-way road and is very popular with cyclist.

Winter Harbor is just two miles from the campground.  It's a great place to explore with small shops and restaurants.  Campbase recommends walking or biking.  Campbase likes Chase's Restaurant for sea food in Winter Harbor.  They are on located on Main Street.

Bar Harber, on Mount Desert is another great destination.  It's quintessential Down East Maine.  A bit touristy but, quite a bit of fun with bars, hotels, restaurants and souvineer shops.   It's a must see on everyone's list.  The other section of Acadia National Park is also on Mount Desert Island.

Bring your bike.  The park has completed an extensive network of bike/hike trails.  All trails are crushed rock and suitable for most types of bikes however, a mountain bike is recommended.  Once you have explored the Schoodic trails, take the bikes over to Mount Desert and explore an even more extensive network of carriage trails.
