Description

California, Tuolumne Meadows Campground, Yosemite National Park.

Directions:

Tuolumne Meadows is located on the back side (east side) of Yosemite National Park.  From Los Angeles:  Take US 395 north to Lee Vining.  Lee Vining is near Mono Lake.  Just before Lee Vining, take Highway 120 west into Yosemite National Park (open late May/June through October, depending on conditions).  Go through Tioga Pass, the park entrance, and proceed approximately 10 more miles.  The campground will be on the left.

Park roads may be closed during the winter months.

There is not a physical address for this campground on highway 120.  The address used here is a general park address in Yosemite Valley.  The Lat/Lon used here are correct for the campground.

Comment

Tuolumne Meadows Campground is half first come, first served and half reservations required.  The campground can accommodate tents and RV's up to 35 feet long.   There are 304 total camp spots.  This is a seasonal campground opening in July and closing in September.  The campground has a relatively short season due to its high altitude, approximately 8600 feet.

Yosemite busses (YARTS) provides limited service to Crane Flat, White Wolf, and Tuolumne Meadows daily during July and August.

If you are driving a large RV, please check this Vehicle Restrictions page.  Not all park roads are open year round.

Gas is available in Tuolumne Meadows during the summer months only.  The fuel station closes seasonally.  Crane Flat, 40 miles away, also has a fuel station and diesel fuel.

Dump stations are located in Yosemite Valley (Upper Pines Campground) or Tuolumne Meadows Campground.  Tuolumne Meadows is seasonal and may not be open.

The Tuolumne Meadows fuel station has a limited amount of groceries.  Tuolumne Meadows fuel station is also seasonal and may not be open.  In addition to the small market at Crane Flat fuel station, there are two markets in Yosemite Valley.  They are, Curry Village and Yosemite Village.  The Yosemite Village Market is the larger of the two markets.

Showers can be found in Yosemite Valley at Curry Village and Housekeeping Camp.

Most cell carriers do not have service from the campground.

There is a variety of lodging in Yosemite National Park including The Ahwahnee, Yosemite Lodge, Housekeeping, Tuolumne Meadows Lodge, White Wolf Lodge, Wawona, and Curry Village.  Curry Village has canvas tent cabins.  Housekeeping is similar to Curry Village.

WiFi is available for purchase at Yosemite Lodge and The Ahwahnee Lodge.  It's also available for free at Curry Village however, there are so many users the network seldom works.

Caution: Wherever you stay in Yosemite, watch out for the bears.  They can be found in every campground, every night.  Bears are very stealthy and can be just feet away without you knowing it.  Don't leave food out and don't leave food or gum in your car.  The gum smell attracts them and they will open your car like a can opener.

Roads:
Yosemite National Park is open all year however, some roads and campgrounds do close.  There are four entrances into the park.  Each entrance has a unique name.  They are, the South Entrance(on Wawona road and Highway 41), Arch Rock Entrance(highway 140 from the West), Big Oak Flat Entrance( From the West on highway 120), and the Tioga Pass Entrance (From the East on Highway 120).  Most roads in Yosemite are challenging for larger RV's.  The lanes are small, winding, and there are overhangs in spots.  The Tioga Pass entrance is the most difficult with a steep assent into the park followed by rough roads.  For RV's there are numerous pull-outs to allow traffic to pass.
