Description

California, Azalea Campground, Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park.  The campground does not have an address therefore, the address used here is a general park address.  The Campbase map provided here is accurate for the campgrounds location.

Directions:

Azalea campground is located 3.5 miles (5.6 km) from Kings Canyon Park entrance in the Grant Grove area. The campground is situated under open stands of evergreen trees.  It's within walking distance from Grant Grove Visitors center.

Note: Due to road conditions, RVs larger than 22 feet should enter the park from Fresno on highway 180.  There are numerous turn-outs for slower vehicles.  The highway is winding and better suited for the larger RVs.   Campbase used a 32 foot RV for this trip and it worked out fine.  RV's should not use the parks southern entrance.

Comment

Azalea Campground is open all year with 110 camp spots.   No reservations, first come, first served at this campground.  Both RV sites and tent sites are available.   Groceries, showers, and restaurant ½ mile (.8 km) to Grant Grove Village.  Coin operated showers but, no laundry.  Grant Grove Lodge is at the same location.

Azalea does have some TENT ONLY areas so, if you are driving an RV keep an eye out for the signs.

There are some camp spots that have an unusual amount of ants.  When selecting a camp spot, take a quick look around for ant mounds.  At one of our camp spots there were so many ant mounds we couldn't sit at the fire pit.  Placing a tent on top of these mounds may also be an issue.

Camp spots toward the back of the campground do not have restrooms.

Cellular service is excellent from this campground however, most of the national park does not have service.  Free WiFi is available at Grant Grove Village near the information center.

There are no full hookups for RVers in the entire park.  Some of the water faucets in the campground have a hose connection and can be used to fill an RV water tank.

There are three gas stations in the National Park.  Kings Canyon Lodge, Hume Lake, and Stony Creek Village.  Diesel is available at the last two.  The NPS map indicates that fuel is available at Grant Grove Village however, Campbase could not find a gas station at that location.  Campbase recommends filling your vehicles fuel tank before entering the National Park.

Dump stations are located at Potwisha, Lodgepole, Princess, and Dorst Creek campgrounds.  The Princess Campground dump station is the closest station to this campground.  Princess is nine miles away.  There is a $10 fee to dump.

Bear boxes are provided in every campground in the park.  All food must be stored in these boxes unless it's kept out of sight in an RV.  Food may not be left out at any time.  Additional bear rules and information can be found at the restrooms.  Do not feed the bears at any time.

Pets are ok in the campground but not allowed on most trails.
