Comment

Of all the campgrounds in Yellowstone, Canyon is the most centrally located campground for touring the park.  The campground does not have full hookups like Fishing Bridge but, the central location and Canyon Village make this campground an appealing location.  There is a very large camping area with a total of 272 sites.  There are also 15 pull through sites.  The campground also has a dump station.  Located in a wooded setting, most spots are shaded.  Water is accessible near the restrooms.

Canyon Campground is the closest campground to the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone.  There are two waterfalls in the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone.  There are several canyon overlooks in the area and it is truly a photographers paradise.

Maximum RV length is 40 feet.

Showers are pay showers.

GUIDED TOURS

The following guided tours have a pick-up point at the Canyon Lodge registration office - Circle of Fire Tour, Evening Wildlife Encounters, Wake up to Wildlife and Lamar Valley Wildlife Excursion. You can book tours by calling 1-866-GEYSERLAND.

IMPORTANT NOTE ON CELL AND DATA SERVICE:
Cell service is sporadic at best.  In most parts of the park there is no phone service no matter how good your carrier is.  For cell service you will need to visit one of the lodges or villages.  Most campgrounds have no service.

Cellular DATA:  Same story, no Internet/data service.  Even if you can get service at a lodge or village it's still painfully slow.  The best thing to do is to go to Old Faithful Village or Canyon Village and find the Global Gossip Hot Spot.  It will be in a sitting room.  They have a very fast Internet connection for about $5 per hour.  It was worth the price.  The phone number for them is (877) 658-5597.  There is a hot spot in the lounge at Canyon Village.

Bring your mosquito repellant.  Mosquitos were plentiful during my visit in June 2013.

Camping and lodging reservations can be made at   www.yellowstonenationalparklodges.com. The only reservable campgrounds in Yellowstone National Park are Madison Campground, Grant Village Campground, Canyon Campground, Bay Bridge Campground, and Fishing Bridge Campground.
