Comment

Fairholme Campground is located on Lake Crescent with direct lake access.  The campground has 87 RV and tent campspots.  The campground closes in late fall and opens in the spring(May-October).  Restrooms, drinking water, and a dump station are available.  All sites are on the recreation.gov website and should be reserved in advance.  Sites that are not booked and available are listed every day on the bulletin board near the restroom.  According to the NPS web site, “rigs to 21 feet can be accommodated”.  However, Campbase arrived in a 32 foot RV and fit into the camp spot just fine.  The park has a small camp store available that has ice and all the essentials.  There is also an RV dump station in the park.  All sites are dry camping.  There are no additional services near the campground, bring everything you will need with you.  This is actually one of Campbase’s most favorite campgrounds.  The lake and surrounding area are simply spectacular.  Spend the day swimming from the beach or rent a kayak and explore the lake.  All fishing on the lake is catch and release only.  A Washington State fishing license is not required in the national park.  This campground is very popular for tenting and small class B RV's.

There are bears and mountain lions around the park, be aware, use caution.

Things to do:

The Spruce Rail Trail runs past the campground.  Its part of the Olympic Discovery Trail.  Its all paved and a wonderful ride.  To link up with the trail, go up and eastbound on the North Shore Road from the campground.  Travel approximately 3.5 miles on the road and you will see a small connector on the left just after you pass over a bridge.  Campbase rode the trail approximately 10 miles to the Spruce Railroad Trailhead(20 miles round trip).  You will pass along Lake Crescent and go through three old railroad tunnels.
