Description

California, Pinnacles Campground, Pinnacles National Park.

Note: Highway 146 on the west side of the park is winding and not recommended for large RVs or trailers.  Smaller RV's and trailers will do fine.  You can only get to the campground through the East entrance.

When driving to Pinnacles National Park, please keep in mind that there is no road that connects the east and west entrances of the park. The shortest route from the east entrance to the west entrance (or from west to east) is through the town of King City on Hwy 101.

Directions from the North:

From the San Francisco Bay Area to the East Entrance:

Take Hwy 101 south through the city of Gilroy to Hwy 25 south. On Hwy 25, go through the town of Hollister and continue about 30 miles to Hwy 146. Turn right on Hwy 146, then turn left into the Pinnacles Campground to check in at Pinnacles Visitor Center. From the campground, the Bear Gulch Area is 3.5 miles further into the park along Hwy 146.

From the South:

To the East Entrance:

Take Hwy 101 North to the town of King City. Exit at 1st Street. Turn right toward King City. Continue straight until 1st St turns into Bitterwater Rd (Monterey County G13). Follow Bitterwater Rd until it intersects Hwy 25. Turn left on Hwy 25 (North) and follow for ~15 miles. Turn left onto Hwy 146 to enter the park. Turn left into the Pinnacles Campground and check in at Pinnacles Visitor Center. The Bear Gulch Area is 3.5 miles further into the park along Hwy. 146.

Each RV site has electrical hookups (120s with 30 amp breakers). There is a community water spigot in each RV loop that is shared by twelve sites. In the center of each RV loop are picnic tables, BBQ pits, and a fire ring.  Pinnacles is America's newest National Park in 2013.  Located at the campground is also the information center and a camp store.  The store has the basics including drinks, ice and wood.  Wood burning is not allowed at Pinnacles during the summer months due to the high fire danger.

There is not that much to see from the road in Pinnacles National Park, it's more or a hikers park than a drivers park.  Most of the sights must be hiked to and are not accessible by vehicle.

Pinnacles also has a great abundance of animals.  Campbase saw deer, raccoon, Quail, Turkies, and a Lynx cat in the first day of camping.  Watch out for the raccoons, they were getting into everything.  They were a bit bold.  Make sure you secure all food, they were very stealthy.

The night time star gazing in this park was excellent.

The parks pool is near the campground and was really quite a bit of fun.

The peak season in Pinnacles is February through June.  Camp spots are usually available without reservation in the summer months.

Tenting $23.  RV camping $36 per night.
