Description

California, South Fork Campground, San Bernardo National Forest.  The campground is located in a remote area.

Directions:

There are a few ways to get to the campground.  From Big Bear City go south on Highway-38 for approximately 17 miles.  The campgrounds entrance will be on the left side.

From the town of Mentone go east on Highway-38.  After approximately 23 miles the campground entrance will be on the right side. For larger RV’s the entrance from Mentone may be a better access path.  Note that the road can be narrow and steep at points.  Elevation climb to the campground is approximately 5,000 feet.  Big rigs can access this area however, it is challenging for the vehicle.  Make sure your brakes and tires are in excellent condition.  RV’s to 30 feet can be accommodated in the campground.

Please see the Campbase map tab for the exact location.

Note:  Use caution when entering or leaving the campground.  Highway-38 winds past the campground and visibility down the highway is limited.

South Fork Campground.  The campground has just 14 RV or tent camp spots available.  RV’s to 30 feet can be accommodated.  This is a seasonal campground open from 5/11 through 9/23.  Campground roads and parking pads are all paved.  Each spot has large pine shade trees.  The campground is remote being approximately 20 miles south of Big Bear City.  Cellular service is not available at the campground.  This is a mountainous area of the San Bernardino National Forest.  Bears are in the area so use caution and store food correctly.  Also, there are rattle snakes in the area.  Reservations are available through www.recreation.gov.  Sites not reserved are available on a first-come, first-served basis at the campground.
