Description

California, Dorst Creek Campground, Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park.  Note, the street address provided here is a general park address.  The campbase map provided here is accurate for the campgrounds location.

Directions:

Dorst Creek campground is located 10 miles (16 km) from the Giant Forest, South on highway 198.  From the south entrance on highway 189 it's approximately six miles north of Lodgepole Village.  Campsites are under open stands of evergreen trees.

Note: Due to road conditions, RVs larger than 22 feet should enter the park from Fresno on highway 180.  There are numerous turn-outs for slower vehicles.  The highway is winding and better suited for the larger RVs.   Campbase used a 32 foot RV for this trip and it worked out fine.  RV's should not use the parks southern entrance.

Dorst Creek Campground, is Open June 18 - September 3.  The open dates are limited and the campground is first come, first served.  There are 218 campsites and 4 group sites.  Most local services are eight miles away from the campground.  Dorst Creek appears to be a brand new campground and it's one of the nicest Campbase has seen.  You'll think you are in heaven.  Take a look at the photos tab.  Also see the group sites available.  It's a bit quieter than camping at the village locations but, sometimes that's what we are looking for.

Proper food storage is required due to bears in the area of the campground.

No cell service, no WiFi.  The closest showers, laundry, and market is at Lodgepole Village.  Dorst Campground does have a dump station and RV water.

Its about a 15 minute drive to the Lodgepole market area where showers and a laundry are available.  Fuel is available approximately six miles north at Stony Creek Lodge.

The shuttle bus does service Dorst Creek Campground once the campground opens.  It's a great service, just park the car.

For recreation, visit Crystal Cave.  Tickets must first be purchased at the Lodgepole visitors center.  The Sherman Tree can also be found in this area of the park.
