The Bangor/Holden KOA was formerly called the Red Barn Campground.  This is a seasonal campground open from May through October with 120 camp sites for RVs and tents.  It's a full service campground with all the amenities most campers need.  It's also a great family campground having a pool and a playground.  There is a walking trail at the back of the campground for those who like to hike.  The campground has a small cafe that also makes pizza.  Nearby, there is a gocart track that can keep the entire family entertained.  The KOA is on the road to Bar Harbor but, it's also close to Downtown Bangor with all of its atractions and services.  The campground can also accommodate the larger RV's with full hookups.  Restrooms have recently been completely remodeled and larger showers installed.  The new showers are also free.  The campground is in a forested area and each camp site has shade trees.  Pets are welcome.  Camp cabins or yurts are also available.  Big rigs to just about any size can be accommodated.

Note:  Depending on the time of year, many areas in Maine may have ticksbees, and mosquitos.  Due to the potential problems posed by these insects it's best to arrive prepared should these insects become a nuisance.  Campbase recommends screen enclosuresrepellantsbug zappers, and mesh net hats.  Please click these links to see our recommended items.

Local Recreation:

The Hollywood Casino is located just five miles away in Bangor.  It's a large casino located on the Penobscot River with table games and approximately 800 slot machines.  There is also a River Walk at the casino.  Across from the casino is the Paul Bunyan statue.  Please see our photos tab for pictures.

Author Steven Kings house is also located in Bangor.  It's a bit spooky looking.  Please see our photos tab for a few pictures.

Bar Harbor, Mount Desert, and Acadia National Park are all located approximately 30 miles southeast of the campground on Highway-1A.
