Maine, Bar Harbor Campground is the closest campground to Bar Harbor.

Directions:

The campground is located on Mount Desert Island just four miles from Bar Harbor.  Acadia National Park is also just a few miles from the campground.

Take I-95 to Bangor.  Near Bangor, take Exit 182A to I-395 East.  Take Route 1A South to Ellsworth.  Cross Main St., and Route 1A will become Route 3 East.  Continue on Route 3 through Ellsworth.  Stay in the right lane and continue for about ten miles.  Cross a small bridge onto Mount Desert Island.  Stay left.  At traffic light, go left toward Bar Harbor.  Continue for several mile and watch for the Bar Harbor Campground sign.  Resort on your left.  If you see the Pirates Cove Adevenure on the right, you have gone to far.

Bar Harbor Campground has 300 camp sites and is open from Memoral Day to Columbus Day.  The campground does not accept advanced reservations.  Downtown Bar Harbor is just a short four miles away.
 
The Island Explorer offers free shuttle service to just about anywhere in the area. In season, (June 23rd through Columbus Day) the shuttle stops at Bar Harbor Campground 24 times a day between 7:28 AM to 10:45 PM, making it an easy and inexpensive way to tour the Island.  A national park pass is required in order to ride the bus.
