Acadia National Park is open all year however, at times the roads may be impassable due to ice and snow.  Blackwood Campground is open from May through October and has tent and RV sites.  The campground is near the ocean and the town of Otter Creek.  The Otter Creek Market is just a few short miles from the entrance to the campground.  On the east side of the campground are walking trails that lead to the ocean less than a mile from camp sites.  The campground is situated in a bueatiful pine Forest with most camp spots having shade trees.  The largest RV the campground can accommodate is 35 feet.  There are several campgrounds on Highway 3 near Trenton where the highway crosses onto Mount Desert Island that are much better suited for larger RV's (hookups).  Look to the bottom of this page for listings of those campgrounds.

The Island Hopper shuttle service services the campground and most campgrounds and locations on Mount Desert.  It's a free service with the park entrance fee.  The bus goes to nearby Bar Harbor and all points in between.  Bar Harbor is a great place to spend the day with all the restaurants and shops.

Cadillac Mountain is also in the area of the campground.  Make sure you take the ride to the top of the mountain for some great views and pictures.

Acadia National Park has an extensive network of carriage trails.  Because these trails are so long and extensive, they are best traveled by bicycle or by wagon.  The horse drawn wagon can be hired at the Acadia Stables.

Southwest Harbor is nearby and a great place to visit for lunch or dinner.  It's not as large a town as Bar Harbor with only one Main Street through town but, still a fun place.

Biking or driving, make sure that you travel on the Park Loop Road.  It's one way in many locations but, the views of the rugged Maine coast are fantastic.

Campbase has a "peddle through" YouTube video of the campground where we take a short bike ride through the campground and video some camp spots.  Click here for the Blackwoods Campground peddle through.

FIREWOOD WARNING:  The National Park is requesting that you leave your firewood at home.  Firewood is available at each campground.  The park is concerned about non-native insects invading the park.  Gathering fire wood in the park is prohibited.

Reservations can be made at Reserve America, www.recreation.gov, or by calling (877) 444-6777.  The camp is usually completely full during the summer months.  Make reservations early.   Nearby campgrounds can be found near the bottom of this page should the National Campgrouds be full.

Depending on the time of year, many areas in Maine may have ticksbees, and mosquitos.  Due to the potential problems posed by these insects it's best to arrive prepared should these insects become a nuisance.  Campbase recommends screen enclosuresrepellantsbug zappers, and mesh net hats.  Please click these links to see our recommended items.
