Directions:
 
The park is off Highway 76, up Highway S-6, then left on Highway S-7 at the junction near the mountaintop.  The S-7 goes into the park entrance.

Comment

Doane Valley Campground, Palomar Mountain State Park is located in a pine Forest on top of Palomar Mountain.  Parking pads are small and not suited for RV's larger than 24 feet.  The campground is open all year with 31 tent and small RV spots.  This is primarily a tenting campground.  All camp spots have shade trees.  Restrooms with pay showers are also available.  Fuel is not available on Palomar Mountain.  There is a restaurant and small store two miles from the campground.  Ice and firewood are available at the store.  Firewood can also be purchased at the campground.  

Local Recreation:

Trout and Catfish can be caught locally in Doane Pond near the campground.

Hiking is popular on the parks numerous trails, please see the PHOTOS tab for a few sign pics.

Palomar Mountain is an excellent area for star gazing.  The Palomar Observatory is just five miles from the campground.  Tours are available at the observatory and there is an information center.

Pala Casino is a short 12 miles from the campground.  The casino has gaming along with 12 restaurants. 

Road touring and road biking are popular on mountain roads near the campground.
