Mainstay Cottages and RV Park has cottages and RV camp spots only, no tenting.  The campground is seasonal opening in mid-May and closing in mid-October.  This is a great spot when your friends don't own an RV because the cottages are available.  Located right on the water in Winter Harbor, the campground has water access and a small beach available.  Mainstay campground can accommodate RV's up to 45 feet.  All RV's must be self contained, full hookups are available.  Restrooms, showers and pull through spots are NOT available.  There are just 10 RV spots at this location.

This campground is located just one mile from Acadia National Park at Schoodic Point.

Fuel is available at Mc's Marketplace in Birch Harbor, about 5 miles east on highway 186.  There is also a small market in Winter Harbor approximately one mile from the campground.

There is a marina and boat launch beside the campground.  A boat dock is available at the marina.

Depending on the time of year, many areas in Maine may have ticksbees, and mosquitos.  Due to the potential problems posed by these insects it's best to arrive prepared should these insects become a nuisance.  Campbase recommends screen enclosuresrepellantsbug zappers, and mesh net hats.  Please click these links to see our recommended items.

Local Recreation:

Fish right off the beach at the campground.

Visit Acadia National Park.  The Acadia entrance is less than one mile from the campground.  Take the car or bike through the park and see all the wonderful sights.  Photography is very popular in this area.  You almost can't take a bad picture.  Bring your bike.  Acadia National Park has completed an extensive network of bike/hike trails.  All trails are crushed rock and suitable for most types of bikes however, a mountain bike is recommended.  Once you have explored the Schoodic trails, take the bikes over to Mount Desert and explore an even more extensive network of carriage trails.

Winter Harbor is within walking distance from the campground.  It's a great place to explore small shops and restaurants.  Campbase recommends walking or biking.  Campbase likes Chase's Restaurant for sea food in Winter Harbor.  They are located on Main Street, approximately 4 blocks from the campground.

Bar Harber, on Mount Desert is another great destination.  It's a quintessential Down East Maine town.  A bit touristy but, quite a bit of fun with bars, hotels, restaurants and souvineer shops.   It's a must see on everyone's list.
