Comment

Vern Whitaker Horse Camp is a developed equestrian campground.  The campground has 10 developed RV or tent camp spots.  Restrooms, showers, drinking water, and horse corrals are available.  The campground is open all year however, the prime season is October through April.  Summer tempratures are extreme and tend to drive most campers out of the area.  There are approximately 35 horse corrals at this location.  Shade is limited but, most camp spots have a small tree.  The nearest dump station to this campground is at the Borrego Palm Canyon Campground near Borrego Springs.  The campground is accessible by RV and can accommodate RV's up to approximately 35 feet.  Do not camp here if you don't have a horse.  It's one of the nicest equestrian campgrounds that Campbase has seen.  If you own a horse, you will love this campground.  The road into the campground is dirt and approximately one mile long.  The road was in good condition for RV's during our visit.

Local Recreation:

Road bicycling is excellent in the area around the campground and in Borrego Springs.  Borrego Springs is a bicycle friendly community.  Most roads in the area have bike lanes.

Anza Borrego State Park has extensive hiking trails and wildlife viewing in the park.  In the spring there are wild flowers.

Ocotillo Wells State Recreational Vehicle Area is just 15 from the campground.  The recreation area is popular for off-roading.

The Galleta Meadows area has an extensive collection of sculptures located along the highway.  Please see our photos tab for a few pictures.  The sculptures are located throughout the Borrego Springs area.
