Wild Mare Campground is open all year with just 12 RV or tent campgrounds.  Most camp spots have shade trees.  Vault toilets and drinking water are available in the campground.  There are no services at the campground.  Most services including fuel are available in North Bend located two miles away.  Horsebacking is popular from this campground.  Horse corrals are available at the campground. This area of the sand dunes is designated for horseback riding and hiking.  Off-roading is not allowed in this part of the dunes.  Beach and ocean access is available nearby.  Big rigs up to 61 feet can be accommodated however, most camp spots are 45 feet long.

Note: this campground was closed in 2017 due to a closed access road.  The access road was blocked by water.  Call ahead and verify it's open.

This campground does have mosquitoes.  Depending on the time of year, they can be quite a nuisance.  Campbase recommends a mosquito mesh hatinsect repellent, and a mosquito net awning to sit in.  If mosquitoes bother you, these items are essential for this location.

Local Recreation:

Off-roading in the Oregon Sand Dunes is by far the most popular activity from this location.  The dunes are spectacular with lakes and pine forests mixed in woodlands.  The dunes extend for 40 miles in this location.

Horsebacking is popular from Horsfall Sand Dunes.  The area to the south of the parks entrance road(Horsfall Road) is restricted to Horsebacking only, no off-roading.

The national recreation area has a long sand beach with beach access.  Horsfall Beach Campground is in the best location for accessing the beach.  Great spot for beachcombers.
