Description

Wyoming, Yellowstone National Park.  Yellowstone is located in the north west corner of Wyoming bordering Montana and Idaho.  It's an enormous park with five different entrances and 12 campgrounds.  Known as geyser land USA for the numerous geysers throughout the park.

Yellowstone is a "drivers" park.  The park is so large that you will spend much of your time driving from point to point on the Grand Loop road.  Therefore, a tow vehicle is essential.  It would be difficult to drive an RV to each of the sites.

Yellowstone is NOT a bicycle park.  There are precious few bike lanes and riding on most of the narrow park roads is dangerous.  Bring the bike but keep it in the campground.

Please see the Campbase map tab for the Old Faithful center.

The park has four entrances.  The most popular entrance is from the South and Jackson hold on highway 191.

Camping and lodging reservations can be made at   www.yellowstonenationalparklodges.com. The only reservable campgrounds in Yellowstone National Park are Madison Campground, Grant Village Campground, Canyon Campground, Bay Bridge Campground, and Fishing Bridge Campground.

IMPORTANT NOTE ON CELL AND DATA SERVICE:

Cell service is sporadic at best.  In most parts of the park there is no phone service no matter how good your carrier is.  For cell service you will need to visit one of the lodges or villages.  Most campgrounds have no service.

Cellular DATA:  Same story, no Internet/data service.  Even if you can get service at a lodge or village it's still painfully slow.  The best thing to do is to go to Old Faithful Village or Canyon Village and find the Global Gossip Hot Spot.  It will be in a sitting room.  They have a very fast Internet connection for about $5 per hour.  It was worth the price.  The phone number for them is (877) 658-5597.  UPDATE 2014:  The. Old Faithful Inn now has free WiFi.

Bring your mosquito repellant.  Mosquitos were plentiful during the Campbase visit.
