Description

Washington, Newhalem Creek Campground is part of the North Cascades National Park System.  The campground is a comfortable facility close to the town of Newhalem, Washington and the Skagit River. It is surrounded by forests, lakes, and streams that that can be explored through the areas many hiking trails. 

Direction:

To reach the North Cascades, drive State Route 20, the North Cascades Highway, from Burlington on the west or Twisp on the east. Newhalem Campground is located at Mile Marker 120 on State Route 20.

Newhalem Creek Campground is divided into loops A, B, and C.  The campground is seasional and opens before Memorial day.  Goodell Creek Campground located just a half mile to the west is open all year.  Look to the bottom of this page for a link to Goodell Creek Campground. 

There are two dump stations in the national park.  One at Newhalem Creek Campground and the second at Colonial Creek Campground.  Dump stations are only open in the summer months.

The vehicle parking pad for each camp spot varies widely.  Some spots are short while others are very deep.  Some sites are larger Pull-A-Round sites. They are not all the same.  ADA sites are also available.

The campground is in a good central location for touring the park.  The Skagit General store is located nearby.  The Skagit river runs past the campground although the flow may be too fast for swimming.  The Visitors Center is located adjacent to the campground with easy access.  Drinking water and restrooms are available in the campground.  Most camp spots have large shade trees.  Each site has a picnic table, fire ring, and bear box.  

Durring the Campbase visit it rained so, rain gear may be in order.
