Description

Washington, North Cascades National Park

Direction:

Primary access to North Cascades National Park and Ross Lake National Recreation Area is from the State Route 20 (SR 20) corridor. Due to avalanche danger, the Washington State Department of Transportation typically closes the roadway between Ross Dam Trailhead and Lone Fir Campground from November to April. The Silver-Skagit Road to Hozomeen provides the only road access to the Ross Lake shoreline. This 37 mile (60 km) gravel road connects with B.C. Highway 1 (Exit 168) near Hope, British Columbia. Hiker and climber access to the northern Picket Range and Mount Shuksan is available from State Route 542 (SR 542) east of Bellingham and the Baker Lake Road northwest of Concrete. Passenger ferry and plane access to Stehekin is available from Chelan on U.S. Route 97. Hiker access to Stehekin begins at the Cascade Pass trailhead on the gravel Cascade River Road, the southbound Pacific Crest Trail from State Route 20 near the Rainy Pass picnic area, and from trailheads on the Twisp River Road.

Please see the Campbase map tab for the parks location.

North Cascades National Park has the following four campgrounds in the park:

Newhalem Campground is near the Information center, Visitors Center, and Skagit General Store.  Its the largest RV and tent campground in the park.  Sites are large enough for 35 foot RV's.  There is also a dump station at this campground.  This campground usually has good cell service.  The campground is seasional and opens Memorial Day week.

Colonial Creek North Campground has RV camp spots for Rv's up to 35 feet.  There is NO cell service at this location. The campground is seasional and opens Memorial Day week.

Colonial Creek South Campground is a remote campground with tent camping only.  There is also a RV dump station at this campground.  There are no services near this campground.  There is NO cell service at this location.  The campground is seasional and opens Memorial Day week.

Goodell Creek Campground.  This is a small campground with approximately 20 RV and tent camp spots.  Campbase recommends RV's no larger than 25 feet due to campground roads and parking pads.  The campground is open all year.  Spots are free in the off season ending Memorial Day.  Cell service was good from this campground.  The campground is situated along the Skagit River.
